The Cambs League held it’s “Grays Cup Finals” event at Hills Road on Saturday 5th October. This is a cup knockout competition for teams in Division 3 or below of the summer league
The Mens final was played between Newmarket and Culford. Newmarket last won the cup in 1979 and their team comprised of Duarte Lucena, Alex Swarbrick, Moya Delgado and Bruce Tarran. Culford were making a first appearance in the final and were represented by Darren Matthews. Reece Laffar, David Hurren and Andrew Hopwood. A very good contest saw Newmarket triumph by 7 sets to 1
The Ladies final was a contest between David Lloyd and Great Shelford. David Lloyd won the cup two year ago in 2017. Great Shelford had never won the Ladies Grays Cup. A really close and well fought battle ended with Shelford just getting the victory by 5-3. The Shelford team was captained by Ifthi Shareef playing with Wendy Butler, plus Jenny Fleck with Jemima Halliwell. David Lloyds captain was Grainne Newark playing with Hazel Boyd and their other pair were Lilia Halyova with Claudia Ruggieero.
Both Cups were presented by Sylvia Morton who is retiring from the League Committee after long years of fantastic commitment.
