The Cambs over 45s men's county Tennis team travelled to the David Lloyd Brierley Hill Club, Dudley, on Sunday 1 December to defend their national title. Having won all five of their group matches, in the 45s Men's Division 1B, of the National Inter-County Summer Leagues, they qualified for the second year running to compete in the Grand Finals. They encountered Surrey for the second year running who this year fielded no less than three former national junior champions and proved too strong for our team. The team captained by David Mills included Andrew Moraghan, Pieter van Houten, Scott Martin and Alan Jordan . Andrew lost his first singles and Pieter lost a close match on a champions tie break as did Alan and Scott in the doubles which meant a premature end, as a result was reached after 3 rubbers. David Mills commented:
"It was a superb effort to reach the final for the second year running and we were close to retaining our title. Both tie breaks could easily have gone our way. I would like to thank, not just the team on the day and our travelling supporters but all those who played in the group matches including Shay Ginat who agreed to play at short notice and travelled all the way to Exeter to help us succeed in a tight group
